ATTENTION DEFICIT HYPERACTIVITY DISORDER

Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is a type of mental neurological disorder which affects children and in some cases, it continues till adulthood. It affects how one can pay attention, sit still and control their behaviour. According to the study, boys are more likely to have this disorder than girls. ADHD can't be cured or prevented but taking care of the individual at their initial phase and having a good treatment and an understanding environment will help them in managing their symptoms. If remain unseen and ignoring the symptoms may cause some disastrous impacts on their life causing disturbance between their relationship with their loved ones, family and friends. People suffering from this disorder will face symptoms as discussed below:

Symptoms of Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder may differ in adults and are categorised in three phases:

IN CHILD PHASE:

INATTENTIVE

HYPERACTIVE

will get easily distracted

Often squirms

daydream

Talks excessively

have problem an in paying attention while listening

impatient

immature behaviour like not listening to the things and doesn't follow the task

the tendency of interrupting others while discussing

problems relating to time management and forget daily activities

Keeps bouncing when sitting to grab attention

COMBINED: which involves both symptoms.

IN ADULT PHASE:

·         keeps delaying routine and get late

·         have low self-self-esteem anger issues, gets easily frustrated

·         the habit of procrastinating things

·         mood swings

·         depression

·         relationship problems

The reasons of transmission of this type of disorder in an individual can occur genetically, chemically which means brain chemicals in some people with ADHD are not stable or areas of the brain that controls the attention are less active, poor nutrition, infections, consumption of alcohol and in taken intake substances during the period of pregnancy may affect the baby's brain development and at last some brain injury which will damage the front part of the brain i.e., the frontal lobe, can cause unstable problems in controlling emotions and impulses.

CHILD ADHD and RELATIONSHIPS: A child suffering from the symptoms of ADHD is diagnosed in them by the age of 7. It is considered as a normal thing for children's to forget doing their or daydreaming sometimes but inattention and hyperactivity can also be the sign of ADHD disorder. It results in making it difficult for children to pay attention and understand the studies easily. Differentiating between a normal kid and a kid suffering from ADHD can be difficult so to understand the situation briefly from what they're going through we can keep a closer eye to them to many symptoms they're having.

It is not necessary that children with ADHD can have hyperactivity sometimes they have attention problems instead of that, they can also concentrate on the activities they do have trouble maintaining focus, some people suffering from ADHD during their childhood will be able to outgrow them some of them while not.

Children with ADHD may be:

·         inattentive, but not hyperactive or impulsive

·         hyperactive and impulsive, but able to pay attention

·         inattentive, hyperactive and impulsive (most common form of ADHD)

Children with impulsive signs and symptoms tend to be arrogant, moody and to overreact in some situations which later on results in tagging that child as disrespectful, weird by their elders.

POSITIVE IMPACTS OF ADHD IN CHILDREN: They are incredibly creative and due to their daydreaming symptoms they can imagine different things with different perspectives, they may easily get distracted by things but they sometimes notice the things where other people lack in noticing.

They are very flexible and keep working on different alternatives of problems which will lead to the opening of more ideas for a solution, they are very cheerful and are interested in different things and even if when they are not expressing that they're having fun they're still having fun within oneself.

EDUCATIONAL FACTORS: ADHD will get in the way of learning as one cannot understand the problem if they're roaming around here and there which will eventually lad in delaying the work given during the class, they're not able to focus and stay still during the lectures as the chemicals producing in their brain won't let them do that, which doesn't mean that they will never be able to succeed, it can be succeeded with the help of their parents and teachers by recognizing their strengths and weaknesses they'll be able to come up with a strategy plan to educate them in the manner they can understand.

ADULT ADHD and RELATIONSHIPS:

Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder can cause misunderstandings, frustrations in your closest relationships but with the help of a healthier and understanding relationship, they will be able to prioritize their relationship above this type of mental disorder vice versa it can also have negative impacts if the symptoms of ADHD have never been properly diagnosed or treated. There are two sides of relationship the person having an ADHD partner and another one will be the person who has ADHD has a normal partner.

·         If the person is with ADHD they may feel like they're constantly being criticized and ignored. even after so many attempts of pleasing their spouse nothing seems right to them and they keep wondering that the person they're in love with has changed.

·         If you're in a relationship with a person who is suffering from ADHD will feel being ignored, lonely. They felt tired (being the only responsible one in their relationship).

HOW CAN WE COPE UP WITH THIS SITUATION: To understand the situation of the person and transforming their relationship in a way both parties will stay mentally, emotionally and physically fit will play a great role, to minimize the negativity between each other one should learn the symptoms of how ADHD symptoms are influencing their interactions as a couple?

For the partner suffering from the ADHD means learning how to manage their symptoms whereas for the partner who is not suffering from ADHD means learning how to react on the situations when the other one is being moody and frustrated and should react in a way that it will lead to encouraging the other partner instead of demoralizing them.

Try to think like the person who has mind state with ADHD symptoms, it will help in looking in the same perspectives of the ADHD person which will lead in avoiding conflicts between them, there is a possibility when you will feel like the other person has understood what you're trying to convey to make you feel comfortable but in reality, they haven't so to maximize the lack of understanding you can assure by asking them again if they had understood or not. When emotions are running high, as they usually do around ADHD relationship issues, it is particularly difficult to maintain objectivity and perspective the best way to put yourself in your partner's shoes is to ask and then simply listen.

TREATMENTS OF ADHD: Therapies, support group, cognitive behavioral therapy, anger management, counselling psychology, psychoeducation, family therapy and applied behavioral analysis.

MEDICATIONS: stimulant, cognition-enhancing medication, an antihypertensive drug.
