SOCIAL MEDIA As the use of social media platforms such as Facebook, Instagram and Twitter, has increased over the last decade, researchers have begun to explore the influence of such a popular and pervasive way of documenting everyday life. When compared to other forms of screen time, such as video games, an increase in social media use over the course of a single year has been associated with a decrease an individual’s self-esteem. A substantial decrease in self-esteem has shown to be associated with later symptoms of depression, and social media may actually enhance these symptoms over time (Boers et al., 2019). The more advanced technology becomes in viewing another person’s life, the more people compare themselves to others, which can have a negative impact on mental health. Social media is mainly a tool to connect with other people, however, in spite of the increased interconnectivity, the current generation may be the loneliest yet.It is clear there is a relationship betwee...

Panic attacks

Panic attacks Panic attacks are more than just an emotional experience. When someone experiences a panic attack, their “fight or flight” response is triggered, and they experience a full-body physical reaction that can be as scary as the panic itself. Common symptoms include racing thoughts, rapid heartbeat, shortness of breath, shaking or trembling, numbness, dizziness or fainting, and nausea or digestive upset. Panic attacks can be debilitating and seriously affect your quality of life. Panic attacks are usually thought of as a symptom of anxiety, but not everyone who has an anxiety disorder experiences panic attacks. They can be experienced by anyone with a mental health disorder, including PTSD, depressive disorders, and substance abuse disorders. Sometimes people with no history of mental illness experience panic attacks.   If you experience recurring, periodic panic attacks, you may be diagnosed with panic disorder, a standalone mental health condition experi...

CONDUCT DISORDER

Image
I heard a very powerful quotes that says : “The distinction between diseases of “brain” and “mind,” between “neurological” problems and “psychological” or “psychiatric” ones, is an unfortunate cultural inheritance that permeates society and medicine. It reflects a basic ignorance of the relation between brain and mind. Diseases of the brain are seen as tragedies visited on people who cannot be blamed for their condition, while diseases of the mind, especially those that affect conduct and emotion, are seen as social inconveniences for which sufferers have much to answer. Individuals are to be blamed for their character flaws, defective emotional modulation, and so on; lack of willpower is supposed to be the primary problem.”—  Antonio R. D Damasioq, With this thought in mind I would like to highlight one of the neurological disease “CONDUCT DISORDER” The term "conduct disorder" refers to a group of behavioural and emotional issues that occur in children on a regular bas...
