Abuse manipulates and twists a child’s natural sense of trust and love. Her innocent feelings are belittled or mocked and she learns to ignore her feelings. She can’t afford to feel the full range of feelings in her body while she’s being abused—pain, outrage, hate, vengeance, confusion, arousal. So she short-circuits them and goes numb. For many children, any expression of feelings, even a single tear, is cause for more severe abuse. Again, the only recourse is to shut down. Feelings go underground.

National Child Abuse Prevention Month, also known as Child Abuse Prevention Month in America, is an annual observance in the United States dedicated to raising awareness and preventing child abuse. April has been designated Child Abuse Prevention Month in the United States since 1983. U.S. President Barack Obama continued that tradition, and in 2016 issued a Presidential proclamation stating: "During National Child Abuse Prevention Month, we recommit to giving every child a chance to succeed and to ensuring that every child grows up in a safe, stable, and nurturing environment that is free from abuse and neglect.
Child abuse is a form of different abnormal behaviors directed against children. Child abuse are of different forms:
• sexual abuse,
• pedophilia,
• physical abuse,
• child neglect,
• emotional neglect and abuse,
• failure to thrive
The statistics is shocking:  in the U.S. a report of child abuse is made every ten seconds. Every day this country loses no less than 4 children because of it. The federal agencies report about 3.2 million children as alleged victims of the child abuse crimes. But that’s just the tip of the iceberg.
Cases of child abuse are there even during the lockdown.
KOCHI: Cases of child sexual abuse continue to get reported in Erankulam even during the lockdown. According to sources, childline has referred five cases of child sexual abuse(CSA) to police since the lockdown was declared.
Is letting our children watch TV a form of child abuse? If our children grow up knowing everything about Britney Spears and nothing about nature or faith, about anything, is that not a form of child abuse?
Is discipline (both mental and physical) in place of coddling truly child abuse? I don't know, but it sure as hell is effective.
Child abuse means doing something that hurts a child. Neglect means not giving or doing something that a child needs.

How can you prevent child abuse and neglect?
• Listen to your child.
• Get to know your child's friends
• Screen all caregivers
• Teach your child
• Get help if you have ever been a victim of abuse.
Consequences of Child Abuse
Not only can child abuse influence every aspect of behavior and experience, but it can also lead to psychosomatic diseases and physical injuries. In addition, child abuse influences the attachment of children to their parents and their relationships with their peers. However, as the short- and long-term consequences are not specific there can be various other causes.

Therefore, the extent of the negative consequences of child abuse depends on complex transactional processes between vulnerability or risk factors on the one hand, and resiliency or compensatory factors on the other hand. The term ‘resiliency’ should not be understood to minimize the suffering of abused children or justify criticism of those children who are not resilient. However, some children from violent homes are less influenced by their abuse than others and develop effective coping skills and strategies. In this connection, the relationship between the causes and consequences of child abuse must also be considered: a low intelligence may—for example—stimulate abusive behavior by parents or caretakers, but low intelligence can also be a negative consequence of severe abusive experiences in early childhood.
